Mommy Wars
Every time a television show creates a story on motherhood there seems to be at least one major rivalry. The mommy wars. Even though these programs are fictional and caricature parenthood, I always find this a bit sad. Sure, not everyone is going to get along all the time but I really don’t believe moms are as competitive and petty with each other as Hollywood believes. Is it really entertaining to see moms disrespect and tear each other down?
I love having mom friends. Who else knows exactly what your life is like, how much sleep you’re not getting and how much you worry about and love your kids?
I learn so much from watching my friend’s parent their children and appreciate the sense of community that spending time with other parents gives me. I have friends that are working moms, stay-at-home moms, breastfeeding moms, bottle feeding moms and have realized that their choices are theirs to make, not for me to judge. Letting them parent the way they want allows me the freedom to do the same and enjoy them as human beings.
What do you think of the “Mommy Wars”? Real phenomenon or overblown?

Sadly, I agree that it really happens. Especially when it comes to the “Developmental Olympics.” I can’t stand mom’s who constantly compare their child to another child. I am a very laid back person and love having other mom’s around, I try to be open to their ideas and parenting ways and I get irritated when people don’t respect my ways or are quick to shut my ideas down because it didn’t work for their child.
I think some parents are like that but not all!! Some parents go way too far! We all love our kids more than life itself, so sticking up for them is our duty, but teaching them respect and dignity without fighting or arguing is being a resonsible parent! Just think would you like it if your child talked to someone like that! No so don’t encourage it walk away keep your head held high and your children will learn from that!!!!

I so agree, Kris. So true!
I love that term “Developmental Olympics”- brilliant! I totally get what you’re saying. I’m very laid back as well and try to find friends who are the same.
